The more I study, the more I realize how much the location of where I am studying actually matters, and how important it is to find a place that is fitting for me. I never used to think the location of where I chose to study mattered, the only thing that mattered in my mind was that I was getting everything done that I needed to. The daunting task of junior year rolled around, and I realized I could not have been more wrong! Location, to me, is one of the main factors that determines how much I accomplish when studying or doing homework.
Coming from a personal standpoint, I get the most done when I am alone, in a quiet environment where there are no distractions present. I will admit, I get distracted and off task extremely easily and I find that when I do get off track it is a big challenge for me to get back on track. My ideal place to study would be at home. Either in my room at my desk, or at my kitchen table is where I find myself to be the most productive. It is just my dad and I at home while both of my siblings are in college, so I find it a lot easier to get my stuff done when he isn't home from work yet, or he is out doing errands, or something along those lines (no offense, dad). I would like to say that I'm a pretty good multi-tasker, but I don't know if it is possible to accomplish ANYTHING when my dad is trying to play a game of twenty questions with me... I love the man to death, but that is so frustrating!
I used to think that studying at Starbucks with my fellow peers was the best way for me to get things done. In a way this is true, and in another way, not so much. If I am struggling with understanding a concept in chemistry, or math just isn't clicking with me, this is when I would make my way over to Starbucks or Biggby or any of the popular coffee shops around town that a lot of the OHS population attend to study. I would go to either meet up with someone who could help me, or I know that no matter when I go I will always run into someone I know there who can hopefully help me out. With that said, that is also the down side of studying there. Whenever I am at Starbucks, I find it nearly impossible to focus. I'm sure a ton of the reason why is because there are always so many people that I know there, and I'm a social butterfly who loves to chat. In order to avoid this dilemma, and feeling like I just wasted so much time, I just avoid studying there at all! Pretty simple concept, right? I'm perfectly content studying at my little white desk at home, and it works to my advantage considering I get way more done there than I do studying somewhere else.
