I mentioned in my previous blog post how easily I can get distracted while studying. I'm sure a large portion of the reason why it is so easy for me to get so easily distracted while studying is because half of the time I'm not at all interested in what I'm trying to memorize and learn for that upcoming test or quiz. It definitely helps me to learn and memorize things when they interest me to some extent, but I've learned that that is not very common, but you have to put up with it anyway.
The Do Not Disturb setting on my iPhone is probably one of the best things I've discovered that this phone has to offer. If you turn this setting on, your phone will not ring or light up when you are receiving a call, text, Snapchat, etc. This setting is especially useful because if I am studying and in the mood to listen to music, I can listen to music through my phone but won't be distracted if for some reason it rings because it just won't light up at all.
When I'm studying, I try to not have my phone anywhere around me so that I won't give in to the temptation to check it periodically, which will lead to me getting off task. If I do check it, I feel like it takes ten times more effort to get myself to refocus on the material I am trying to learn rather than just not touching it at all. This is one of the reasons why I find that setting so very helpful. If it weren't for Do Not Disturb, I would not be able to study with my phone anywhere around me. It takes me so much self control not to check my phone immediately when it rings, and if that were the case, I would never get anything done.
Once I get distracted from studying, it seems like I will do anything before I have to get back to it. If I were to check my phone (assuming it were not on Do Not Disturb), I would be on that thing for fifteen to twenty minutes. Updating my Twitter Timeline to see what's new, refreshing my Snapchat Stories, seeing if any of my girls recently posted a new Instagram photo while I was studying, and everything in between. These are just a couple of the reasons why I find this setting so useful! I would recommend using it to anyone who is trying to accomplish any sort of work, and I would also recommend it for many things not regarding learning and studying! Do Not Disturb is my best friend while studying and doing homework. It makes life so much easier, and you get so much more done. It's like killing two birds with one stone!
